Our Farm Box Subscription (formerly called CSA) is an ideal choice for anyone seeking local, tasty, organically grown greens and produce throughout the season. Not sure if a Subscription is right for you? Start here by taking a quick quiz to find out.

Give yourself 5–10 minutes to read and think through these questions. Keep track of your answers and notice what they reveal. Joining a Farm Box Subscription is a meaningful commitment; taking a few minutes now will help you make the best decision for you and your family.

6 Questions you should ask yourself before joining.

NUMBER 1:   Is having a relationship with a farmer important to you? Do you want to know where your food comes from?

Members want to see the hand that feeds them. They want access to great‑tasting, nutritious food and to know the farmers and their growing habits.

By subscribing, you commit to standing with a specific farmer for an entire season — come thick and thin. You share the risks (unpredictable weather, pests) and the rewards (sweet carrots, deep green spinach, first fruits). Members’ motivation is as much about supporting the farmer as it is about getting the full financial value of the share — and that commitment matters.

So, where do you fall?

>Yes, I want to know and support the farmer who grows my food and where it is grown!

>No, it doesn’t really matter to me who grows my food.

NUMBER 2: Do you value having quality, nutritious vegetable ingredients that actually taste good?

At The Goodman Farms we believe food should be both wholesome and delicious. Our vegetables are grown with care, harvested at peak ripeness, and handled to preserve flavor and nutrients. Whether you’re preparing a simple weeknight meal or crafting a chef-worthy dish, the right ingredients make all the difference.

Why choose quality vegetables?

  • Better flavor: Properly grown and harvested produce tastes fresher and more vibrant.

  • Higher nutrition: Optimal growing and handling retain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

  • Consistent results: Uniform quality means recipes turn out as intended more often.A

  • Reduced waste: Fresher produce lasts longer, saving money and reducing food waste.

How to tell they’re good:

  • Look for bright color and firm texture.

  • Smell should be fresh and characteristic of the vegetable.

  • Check for minimal blemishes and signs of wilting.

If you prioritize taste, nutrition, and reliability in your vegetables, choosing high-quality ingredients is one of the simplest ways to improve every meal. Real food. Food that tastes the way it should—grown with care in healthy soil using organic methods and harvested just before delivery. Members consistently notice the difference: once you taste a true carrot, you can’t go back to the watered‑down grocery store version. That unmistakable flavor is what you’re paying for when you join a subscription.

We source and pack top‑quality produce for our members, not surplus or deeply discounted goods from unknown origins. If your goal is the cheapest head of lettuce and a bag of carrots to assemble an iceberg salad, our Farm Box is not your gig. But if you value fresh, flavorful, thoughtfully grown food—and want produce picked at peak ripeness—Farm Box Subscription is exactly where you belong.

How much does taste and quality matter to you?

>Yep, 100% it matters to me!

>No, maybe not quite as much as the dollar value

NUMBER 3: Are you willing to try new foods?

Your box will have many common vegetables, but you’ll probably get at least one you’ve never used before. Use it as a chance to try new foods and add variety to your cooking.

How do you feel about trying new veggies?

>Sure, I’ll give it a try

>Not so sure I’m into it

NUMBER 4:  Are you looking for a “deal”?  Are you comparing LOCAL FRESH prices to the grocery store (Walmart, Costco, Giant Eagle, etc.…)

People who fully embrace the farm box model don’t view their subscription as simply chasing the lowest price — and they don’t measure the farm box against a grocery-store price table. That’s a key point. A farm box isn’t a line-item comparison of cabbage versus Costco kale.

When you choose a farm box you’re buying more than produce. You’re buying transparency about how your food was grown and harvested. You know the soil it came from, the people who tended it, and the practices used to grow it. You can visit the land, meet the growers, see harvest day, and ask questions about seed, seasonality, and storage. That connection adds real value that a per-pound cost on a store shelf doesn’t capture.

A farm box also delivers:

  • Freshness and flavor often impossible to match after long supply chains.

  • Seasonal variety that encourages cooking with what’s at its peak.

  • Community support: your subscription helps sustain small-scale farming and local food systems.

  • Reduced packaging and lower food miles in many cases.

If your main criterion is the lowest possible price, the farm box model may not be the right fit. But if you value traceability, relationship, taste, seasonality, and supporting local agriculture, the farm box offers benefits that go beyond simple price comparisons. Are you looking for the best deal or for a new experience?

>yes, I want the farm box experience

>no, I really prefer to get the best deal possible

NUMBER 5:  Do you like to cook? How many meals a week do you cook at home?  Do you use vegetables and herbs on a regular basis?  Do you like to experiment with new recipes?

Getting a big box of fresh vegetables is great if you cook often, but it can be too much if you don’t cook or eat out. Will you take time to prep and plan meals with what we send? Are you okay getting leafy greens (lettuce, salad mix, spinach, kale) and root vegetables repeatedly because that’s what’s available? Be honest about your eating habits and schedule.

Are you on board with being in the kitchen to plan/prep?

>yes, I look forward to taking the time to plan/prep my food.

>no, I don’t really have the time to be in the kitchen and I enjoy eating out several times a week.

NUMBER 6: Are organic practices important to you?

Here at the farm we are investing in the long-term health of our soil. Instead of relying on chemicals to fertilize and protect our crops, we rely on natural resources—cover crops, eggshells, worm compost, shredded leaves, beneficial insects, and more—that regenerate the land for years to come. We use rich compost and no‑till methods to limit soil disturbance, preserve structure, and maintain beneficial organisms. In other words, we let the soil do its job so it can grow healthy, nutrient-dense vegetables for you.

How’d you do on the quiz? The reality is that a farm box subscription isn’t a good fit for everyone, and you shouldn’t feel bad if it’s not the right match for you. Our members aren’t “better” customers — they just have preferences and routines that align with how a subscription works. It’s best to go into a subscription with your eyes wide open and make sure your expectations match the experience our farm box will provide.
